I’m feeling particularly cranky today. Maybe because of that pastrami sandwich yesterday or maybe that little spat with wifie. It could even be because my shoe string broke this morning causing my back to go out. Or maybe just because this world sucks.
I’m getting tired of the same old crap; go to local interactive web news with my morning coffee. There are armed robberies, stabbings, shootings, suicides; the normal medley of despair and mans cruelty to man. I commented on every one, ‘this SUCKS’. For crying out loud this is all in my own area code, where I had once roamed free and collected pounds of candy on Halloween.
America, something has gone dreadfully wrong. We are putting Band-Aids on spurting arteries. Our life blood is making sticky mud in the dirt as it leaks away. What greedy fools we have been. We have squandered our great heritage and bountiful resources. Not on international assistance donations and not on wars that had to be won. But on the baby boomers insatiable greed for material status, we worship the golden calf. We have taught our children to worship the golden calf.
What happened to us? Where did the beautiful people, the flower children go? Where did the peace and love go? I will tell you where we went; even before the visions of world peace and abundance where gone we crossed the line; the ‘this is mine line’, the line that says ‘I got more stuff so I am better then you.’ With this wicked motto we proceeded to rape and plunder the earth and trod on anyone that got in the way. We mollified our guilt by generous giving to third world nations, especially if they had oil.
The next generation, generation X, watched us as all children watch their parents. They learned greed and power are good. They learned to seek, grab, steal and kill for the treasures of the earth. They learned ‘I got mine so up yours.’ They learned to think entitlements are a constitutional right. They didn’t learn how to raise their children with any moral compass, because we did not give them a compass to pass on to the next generation. Have no doubts on this; turn on your TV and radio, go to the news on your computer, all our miss deeds are in our face. The scramble for riches and false idols by our offspring and their offspring are displayed in vivid detail. We, the baby boomers, and nobody else are responsible for this. I am ashamed of my generation.

Interesting, and I read your views all the time. The boomers are getting blamed for this mess. I disagree, though, there are some of us that taught our children to respect the planet, etc. There is just too much media now and the information we are getting is overload. My concern is, where have we been in protesting issues such as government bailouts, etc? We hugely protested against a war that was wrong, why not that? I really believe there is another powerful controling force here, other than the (mistakes) of the boomer generation.
ReplyDeletePoor little boomers. Remember they are just a generation..and also individuals. Grouping people together makes no sense. Life has a pattern...times when things are sailing and times when things are sinking...Always remember that life is an ever changing venue. ReplyDeleteTime to reinvent your wheel..Start making changes in life. Get a pen and paper and write down all the things you want to achieve. Another piece of paper with all your obstacles. Read the last one and tear it up, and go back to the first one. Start making those changes.
